Hi Folks,

Uncle Eamonn has just let me know that the hotel that we were initially interested in - Holiday Inn Express Arras is full for the weekend (17/04/09 - 19/04/09) that we are heading to France.

A hotel right beside this across from the station in Arras has rooms - see details below - I asked them this morning if they had 6 free twin rooms and the lady in reception confirmed they had.

Mercure Atria Arras tel +33 3 2123 8888 - 3 star - www.accorhotels.com, bar, restaurant & underground parking, also across from the train station - price for twin room with no cancellation - Euro 62 per room per night with the option of Euro 14 per person for breakfast per day.

"Across the street from Arras TGV station, the Mercure Atria is just moments away from pedestrian streets, the historic centre and city squares featuring the belfry classified as a world heritage site by UNESCO. 30 minutes from Lille and Lesquin Airport, the hotel is ideally located 50 minutes by TGV train from the Gare du Nord in Paris. The hotel features 80 rooms including 38 refurbished superior rooms. Our conference facilities include a 300 seat auditorium and meeting rooms for up to 400 people."

Time is getting tight so can we decide if we intend to travel or not? Can everyone who is intending to go get onto the hotel website and book rooms?

I'll put a note of this onto the blog as well.

Any queries give me a shout.

Hi Folks,

Please see below a copy of the mail that I sent to John & Uncle Eamonn about my plans for departure from Dublin - hope that it is of interest.

Good to hear from you. I am planning to fly with Ryanair from Dublin to Paris - Beauvais - more northerly than Paris Charles de Gaulle airport and closer to Arras. I plan to fly on Friday 17/04/09 on the 10:30 flight FR24 arriving into Paris Beauvais at 12:55. Then hire out a car and drive to Arras - approx 1 1/2 hours away. Dependent upon numbers on the flight we can organise number of cars required, drivers etc - to be finalised.

Returning on the Sunday 19/04/09 I'll take the 13:55 flight FR23 leaving from Paris Beauvais, arriving into Dublin at 14:25. Unfortunately the only other later flight is at 22:50 arriving into Dublin at 23:15 which is too late.

The folks flying from Shannon will have different times - discuss with John and check out the Ryanair website.

I have booked my room at the Holiday Inn Express in Arras - approx. Euro 80 per night for a twin room with breakfast so it works out at Euro 40 per head per night which is not too bad. The guide Simon Godly who showed us around the last time is organised and has pencilled us in for this weekend in his diary. If we all chip in a few euro e.g. Euro 10 each per head for his petrol, time etc. I'm sure he will be happy enough.

An interesting place to visit on either the Friday afternoon for the Dublin flight crowd or on Sunday for the Shannon flight crowd might be the Wellington Quarry. On the Saturday Simon will show us around Arras, where Grandad won his medal at Gavrelle etc. - similar to our visit 2 years ago - details to be finalised. If the Shannon crowd want to do something with him on the Sunday I'm sure that he will be open to discussion.

When we have definite numbers we can organise restaurant bookings for the Friday & Saturday night. I hope that this is of use - if you have any queries give me a shout.

Regards,

Shane
